ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a Quality Management System and is the only standard in the family that can be used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. ISO 9000 ensures company products & services meet customer expectations and enhance customer satisfaction.
This standard is based on several quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. To assist organizations in demonstrating their compliance Manas Consultancy Services offer Certification along with a range of training sessions.
History of ISO 9001
The ISO 9001:2015 is the fifth iteration of the standard. The first publication of the standard was released in 1987 and was heavily focused on documentation. The requirements of the first publication were based on the U.S. military standards used by government contractors since World War II.
The second publication was ISO 9001:1994. With minor revisions to the first standard, the ISO 9001:1994 was still very prescriptive and focused on manufacturing. This made it difficult for service providers to interpret and apply for ISO 9001:1994.
The next publication ISO 9001:2000 saw a significant revision of the standard. The third publication was an attempt to make the standard more applicable to service providers and flexible and therefore focused on continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, leadership, and process management. The fourth iteration of the standard saw minor changes with only a few changes to the wordings of the 3rd iteration. No requirements were added, removed, or changed.
The present iteration of the standard had a significant revision and was another step toward the service sector and away from the manufacturing origins. This model focuses on managing and improving an organization with risk lying at the heart of the standard. This framework is designed for long-term success and customer satisfaction.

Procedure of ISO 9001
The key stages and processes of the ISO 9001:2015 are as follows:
1. Prerequisites
Before an application can be reviewed, organizations need to have the knowledge skills, and capabilities to support a standard beyond the certification audit. Once the organizations have the required knowledge and skills, we will conduct a GAP analysis. The analysis identifies what you do and what ISO 9001 recommends you to do. Once conducted, the analysis may recommend additions or modifications to adopt International Best Practices.
Based on the training and understanding of the standard, the client will need to review their own management system and evaluate their existing policies and ensure that they modify them according to the GAP analysis to meet the International Best Practices.
2. Application Review and Contract Review
In this step, the client conducts a series of reviews to ensure that they meet the standard requirements. The client will first need to ensure that all of their employees are adopting the new protocols and procedures in line with the standards.
The client will also need to conduct an internal audit of its management system implementation. The audit must examine its processes and procedures in terms of effectiveness. The last review is the management review, in this review, the client discusses the future of their management system with their senior management and identify areas of strength, weaknesses, and continual improvement.
3. Initial Certification Audit: Stage 1 & 2 Audit
A pre-assessment audit is done before and outside the formal scope of certification to identify areas that need work. This also prepares key employees for the eventual audit hence ensuring that you rehearse, align, and de-bug your system.
4. Certification Decision
A certificate is issued to your Organization.
5. Continual Assessment
A surveillance visit is conducted every year over a 3 year period to monitor and evaluate the continuing system performance.
6. Recertification
Recertification of your management system is required every 3 years after the initial certification. The process covers a comprehensive review of the whole system and may include an additional stage 1 review where significant problems have been encountered during the course of the certification cycle.
